Bowling Ball Chair

Plywood, steel rods, thermoplastic
May 2026


A chair that can seat individuals of all different sizes. 

Each vertical turn of the chair presents a new seat, all four of which can accomodate to a different size body, from 14 inches to 24 inches wide. 

Built from three stages of molds.
1. Wooden inner frame: understanding support
2. Steel wire frame: understanding shape
3. Thermoplastic covering: understanding comfort

My work deals with the balance between addition and subtraction. With the individual as the core, my design aims at achieving both necessity and pleasure. How can these two goals be reached through the interplay of the two operations and allow for design to decide what we need as well as what we want?
